The biggest decision after class 10 is choosing the right stream. Choosing the right stream is extremely important because everything that happens thereafter will depend on it. Most of the students make mistakes at this time. They start following their friends. Similarly, some of them select the stream as their parents or elders suggest them. Science is the most popular and favorite career option after the 10th for the majority of parents and students. The best advantage of taking the science stream is, it keeps your options open. You might switch from science to commerce or science to arts. But it is not possible for the other stream’s students. Further, It will enhance your problem-solving abilities. Moreover, Science and math provide a strong foundation that enables students to get highly respected and well-paid jobs. In addition, It allows us to develop more scientific knowledge.

Physics and Chemistry are the compulsory subjects in the Science stream. Even English is also compulsory in most of the school. On the other hand, some of the schools are giving the option to choose one language out of Hindi and English. Students can choose the other subject according to their interests. If they want to go for a medical line or they don’t like maths they can opt for Biology. Or if they are interested in Engineering or they like Maths, then they can opt for Maths. Moreover, they have to select one optional subject from the subjects offered by the school. In short, the student applying for the science stream has to study a minimum of five subjects.

Some students opt for maths and Bio which is called PCMB. The benefits of taking both Maths and Biology in high school CBSE is that you can switch between fields with ease when you are finished with your Boards and are applying to colleges. For example, if you want to go for Engineering then you need Maths and if you want to go for Medical then you need Biology. So It will increase your career options. But studying maths with Bio is not so easy. So Science offers the best career options after the 10th.
Commerce is the second most popular stream and offers the best career options after 10th. Students if have an interest in mathematics, in business, finances, and economy, then it is the best stream to choose.

Accountancy, Economics, Business Study, Hindi/English(according to Board) are the compulsory subjects for the students who opt for Commerce. Arts / Humanities
Humanities or what is popularly known as the Arts stream is traditionally the least preferred option among students. But today, Arts students have a lot of career options after 10th. And most of the careers are equally profitable and satisfying as the ones available through Science or Commerce streams. If one opts for the Arts stream then the preparation for the country’s biggest Govt. oriented job exams like I.A.S, I.P.S, and all other competitive exams can be done easily.

The major career options under the Arts Stream are:
Arts & Humanity is an extensively vast stream. It offers numerous career options to students. For example, Right from studying how people interact in group settings to understand the legal rights of the citizen. All these come under the purview of Art stream subjects. Further, you can choose for anything from civil services or IAS officers to subject-oriented graduation. Furthermore, one can also opt for technical courses like BCA/B.Arch. Or one can go for law and management courses as well. Students who are willing and curious to learn more about society and the world around them, they can go for history and sociology. The students who want to become a lawyer they can opt for the law. So there are many career options available if one goes with Arts Stream.
Subjects For Arts Students:
Students have to take a minimum of five subjects. From which Hindi or English is compulsory. Further, they have to choose any one Subject from Academic Electives (History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Mathematics, Computer Science, and the like). Or they can choose anyone from other languages (Urdu, Punjabi, Bangali, Tamil, and others). Furthermore, they have to select any three subjects from the Skill Group(Yoga, Early Childhood Education, Fashion Study, Media, Tourism, and the rest). Or they can choose from Academic Electives or the combination of Academic Electives and Skill group.
After 10th class, students can op for polytechnic courses. These courses are Mechanical, Civil, Chemicals, Computer, Automobile. Polytechnic colleges offer diploma courses for a duration of 3 years, 2 years, and also 1 year. After which one can start working or go for B.E/B.Tech as a lateral entrant. These institutes mostly focus on practical knowledge and skill enhancement.
• ITI (Industrial Training Institutes)
ITI comes under the Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET). It is a government training institute which trains students and makes them skilled in various industries. Training will be provided in Mechanical work, Electronics, Information Technologies. Some other fields are also famous as Fabrication, Automobile, Diesel Mechanics, Lift Mechanics, Computer Software, Sheet metal, Electrical, Plumbing, Wiring, etc. It is similar to a diploma, but the duration of the course varies.
After 10th class, students can opt for different paramedic courses. Such as DMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology), DOA(Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistant), DOT (Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistant). These are Medical courses. They provide good opportunities regarding careers. This course trains the students who later work as healthcare, workers, and technicians. The demand for healthcare workers is huge in India and abroad.
• Short term courses
After 10th class, students can do short term courses like Tally, DTP, Graphics, Web Designing, Graphic Designing. These courses are offered according to the trend that is in demand. These courses help students refine and enhance their skills. And they provide certificates after the completion of the course which can be helpful to get the desired job.
